Implementing Our Mission

The CHARM Gateway
Capitol Heights-Addison Road Metro
GCHIC focuses on revitalizing the Capitol Heights–Addison Road Metro (CHARM) gateway area, aiming to transform it into a vibrant, walkable urban destination. By developing a transportation infrastructure and economic development investment plan for this critical regional activity center, GHCIC seeks to attract diverse residents and businesses, enhancing livability and accessibility in this underutilized transit corridor.

Connected and Engaged Communities
Knowledge is Power
This initiative aims to strengthen the community's communications infrastructure, enhancing public awareness and civic participation. By developing resources like newsletters and exploring the creation of a council of neighborhood representatives, GCHIC enhances residents’ ability to stay informed and actively engaged in local decision-making.

One City, One Future
Strength in Unity
Recognizing the fragmented nature of the area's five municipalities, GCHIC advocates for a unified approach to development. By promoting collaboration among Capitol Heights, Seat Pleasant, Fairmount Heights, Glenarden, District Heights, and the interwoven unincorporated areas, GCHIC aims to create a cohesive, urbanized community capable of supporting a robust tax base and shared services.

Reenvisioning Our Community
Land Use and Development
GCHIC works to foster collaboration, emphasize accountability, and empower the community to be an active part of the development process. Through engagement and education, GCHIC is working to build a unified community vision, turning neglected spaces into assets that benefit residents. This program also works to assemble and repurpose tax-foreclosed, blighted, or underutilized properties for community-serving economic development and the creation of dense, walkable, transit-oriented communities through collaboration and accountability.
